Summary
Diablo 4general manager Rod Fergusson drops a few hints with the Season 6 update, indicating that many progression systems are going to see a much-needed overhaul. After launching last year,Diablo 4quickly became a major hit for Blizzard, smashing a record to become the company’s fastest-selling game ever made. However, even after such a hot start, many fans agreed thatDiablo 4wasn’t a perfect experience.
Designed as a live-service title, Blizzard continued to add content to the base game through seasons, which were typically accompanied by large scale patches. While it took a few seasons to catch its footing, many players agreed thatSeason 4 was a high point forDiablo 4post-launch content. Known as The Loot Reborn, this update essentially overhauled gear and gave players more agency through crafting systems, like Masterworking and Tempering. In an attempt to continue that positive trend, Blizzard has big plans for the Season 6 update when it arrives alongside the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
In arecent interview,Diablogeneral manager Rod Fergusson provided a few insights into what players can expect when the free Season 6 update arrives in October. While Blizzard is planning a big reveal stream closer to launch, Fergusson indicated that the team has taken inspiration from the work that was done with Season 4. So what Season 4 did for Loot, Season 6 is planning to do for player progression, adding many “interesting changes” to numerous systems the game offers.
Diablo 4 Season 6 Planning Changes to Progression Systems
While Fergusson didn’t go into specifics, he did indicate that Season 6 will be making changes to theDiablo 4Paragon Systemas well as how the game deals with difficulty and player leveling. As players have seen, the Paragon Board is expansive and potentially overwhelming for some. Perhaps the team is looking at streamlining the system a bit, or perhaps making it easier to interact with. Regardless, with Vessel of Hatred and Season 6 slated for launch on October 8, players won’t have to wait too much longer to see what really is changing.
Even though Blizzard has kept most of Season 6 under wraps to this point, it hasn’t stopped players from attempting to discover new details early. Players on the PTR servers have come across plenty of new information that Blizzard has yet to publicly disclose, including thatDiablo 4Season 6 is centered around the Lord of Hatred, Mephisto. “Season of the Hatred” will see Mephisto’s influence descend over Sanctuary, introduce new enemy types, mythic unique gear, and potentially bring back the highly requested Secret Cow Level.
