Much of what the audience knows about Harry Morgan comes from the perception of the people who were closest to him, like Dexter, Debra andkey recurring character, Tom Matthews, who worked with him during his time in Miami Metro Homicide. However, the character only appears via flashbacks from Dexter’s perspective and also as the serial killer’s subconscious ghostly apparition, so the real Harry Morgan will be seen for the first time inDexter: Original Sin.Fans might get to see the events from Harry Morgan’s perspective this time, revealing a vastly different backstory to the one fans have become accustomed to.
Harry Morgan Has Only Been Seen In Flashbacks And As Dexter’s Ghost, So Not Much Is Actually Known About His Character
Who is Harry Morgan? That is the question on many fans' minds asDexter’s upcoming prequelapproaches its air date in December 2024.James Remar played Dexter’s adoptive father inDexterbetween 2006-2013, but the majority of what the audience saw was actually all part ofDexter’s Ghostversion of his father. Of course, the basics ofHarry’s codewas fleshed out via flashbacks in the original series and while it’s likely most of this was true, it was all told from Dexter’s twisted perspective, so it could be deemed unreliable.
Tom Matthews was the main source of information on all things Harry, as he often gave Dexter and Debra tidbits of information about their father’s past.However, this doesn’t mean everything he told them was true, as he initially lied about how Harry actually died. For years, it was believed that Harry died of his heart condition, but it was later revealed that he died by suicide, after overdosing on his heart medication. What Matthews didn’t know was that Harry killed himself because he couldn’t cope with what Dexter had become, and the responsibility he took for helping to create a monster.

Fans already knew that Harry Morgan was a dark character, because anyone who encourages their own son to kill people has to be pretty morally ambiguous. There is an argument that Harry tried tochannel Dexter’s urges so he wouldn’t kill good people, by forming the code that became a huge part of Dexter’s modus operandi. However, Harry had so many other options he could’ve taken with Dexter, but he chose to go down the path that led toDexter’s dark passenger.
Christian Slater will take on the role of Harry Morgan in theDexterprequel series,and fans could be set to discover a lot more about the Miami Metro detective’s dark past.There is a chance Harry could be an even darker figure than was originally conceived. Dexter wasn’t Harry’s biological son, so he didn’t inherit his darkness from him, but it’s that age-old argument of nature vs nurture.Harry nurtured a serial killer under his own roof, and maybe he did that because he was a killer himself.It’s entirely possible that Harry Morgan was even more corrupt as a detective than was initially thought. Harry helped Dexter pinpoint potential targets for his kill table, based on which criminals escaped justice. If he was willing to do this to help Dexter, it is likely he was already doing it prior to forming the code with him.

Everything else is up to the audiences' interpretation until the real truth is revealed in the prequel series.
