Summary

Destiny 2developer Bungie has shared some more information regarding its plans for Codename: Frontiers, specifically discussing the roadmap for raid and dungeon releases next year, while also detailing howDestiny 2’s endgame content is set to evolve. The developer team behindDestiny 2revealed more about their game plan for 2025 in a blog post earlier in September, which shed some more light on the two expansions - codenamed “Apollo” and “Behemoth” respectively - and the variety of content that these expansions are planned to introduce.

WithDestiny 2’s decade-long Light and Dark saga finally brought to a close with The Final Shape, it seems Bungie’s focus is set on mixing up theDestiny 2formula going forward. Game Director Tyson Green stated in a previous blog post that the team believes “It’s time forDestinyto change and evolve,” and the details surrounding Codename: Frontiers that have been revealed so far certainly suggest that next year could be a particularly refreshing one for the game. Instead of receiving a single annual update,Destiny 2will get two major expansions throughout 2025, with the first releasing in Summer and the second in Winter.

Players can look forward to four major updates and reward passes that will be released periodically throughout the year as well. While this roadmap details an abundance of content, Bungie has specifically shared more about its plans regarding new raid and dungeon content next year in the latestThis Week In Destiny blog post. Bungie has confirmed thatDestiny 2will continue to receive one new raidper year going forward, with each raid set to release alongside the first expansion of each year. That said, every new raid will feature vastly improved difficulty customization courtesy of a new “Feats” system, which will allow players to choose from a list of optional modifiers to increase the challenge as well as improve the rewards earned.

How Destiny 2 Intends to Make the Most of Its Annual Raid Releases

It appears this Feats system will replace the existing raid difficulty and challenge mechanics. In addition to this, each major update following the release of a raid will introduce a “challenge update” to the activity, which will help keep new raid activities fresh following their initial launch by expanding upon them through the addition of even more new rewards, mechanics, Feats, and possibly entirely new encounters, according to the developer. With the success of thePantheon activity inDestiny 2, Bungie also discussed its plan to introduce a similar raid event activity with the final major update of 2025, though there are currently few details.

Raids aside,Destiny 2is also set to receive one new dungeonactivity next year as part of the game’s second expansion for 2025, Codename: Behemoth. Bungie has confirmed that it will be doing away with Dungeon Keys going forward, while also teasing an enhanced variety of loot offered by each new dungeon which is allegedly set to be on par with that offered by raids.
