Dead by Daylightdeveloper Behaviour Interactive has acquired the developer behind theDarkest Dungeonseries, Red Hook Studios. TheDead by Daylightdevelopers have long been fans of theDarkest Dungeongames and are excited about the acquisition.
Dead by Daylighthas become well known within the horror community for its unique gameplay and wide variety of iconic horror legends within the game. The studio has a long history of licensing rights to several popular horror franchises, with huge names such as Chucky andCastlevaniabeing some of the latest to join the game. As the studio andDead by Daylightbrand continue to grow, they have even started a few side projects. For example,Dead by Daylightspin-offThe Casting of Frank Stonewas released earlier this yearand was developed by Supermassive games and published by Behaviour Interactive.
As announced on Behviour Interactive’s Twitter, the Canadian game studio has officially acquired Red Hook Studios, the developer behindDarkest Dungeon.Darkest Dungeonis a tough roguelikeand turn-based RPG series filled with lovecraftian horror that hits on the psychological stresses of adventuring. According to the tweet, Red Hook Studios will continue to work as a fully independent studio underneath Behaviour Interactive while still creating the same style of content as it did with theDarkest Dungeongames.
In a separate statement put out by co-founder and CEO of Behaviour Interactive, Rémi Racine, the studio states that it is a privilege to welcome Red Hook Studios into the world of Behaviour Interactive. Alongside that, the statement also mentioned earlier this year Behvaiour Interactive set “ambitious goals” for the future of the studio as a publisher. The acquisition of Red Hook falls in line with this goal and makes sense as the two game development studios have a lot in common, as both studios are Canadian, independent, anddevoted to creating intense horror games. While there was a bit of a mixed reception from fans, both studios seemed incredibly excited about the acquisition.
Prior to the news of Behaviour Interactive acquiring Red Hook Studios, theDead by Daylightdevelopers announced the cancelation of another spin-off game, Project T. The developers sent out an official statement about the canceled project on their Twitter, stating that play tests of the game didn’t play out as expected. Although this news is saddening to fans ofDead by Daylightand Behaviour Interactive, the acquisition of Red Hook Studios is certainly something to look forward to.
