A remastered version of the cult-classicDarksiders 2is coming to current systems later this year. The originalDarksiders 2was released on seventh-generation consoles in 2012 as a follow-up to 2010’sDarksiders. Set during the biblical end of days,Darksiders 2puts players in the role of Death, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, as he sets out to prove his brother War’s innocence for supposedly causing the eradication of all of humanity. To do this, Death must roam the mortal realm on the back of his horse Despair, battle monstrous enemies in hack-and-slash combat, and solve gothic-themed puzzles to uncover the truth.
Darksiders 2was met with largely positive reviews, though it ultimately fell short of publisher THQ’s sales expectations. Despite this, many fans look back fondly on the game thanks to its grim visual styleand blisteringZelda-like gameplay. An updated version titledDarksiders 2: Deathfinitive Editionwas released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015, featuring enhanced graphics and all the original game’s DLC alongside some gameplay balance adjustments. TheDeathfinitive Editionwas eventually ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2019 and the ill-fated Google Stadia in 2021.
Death will soon ride again on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as publisher THQ Nordic and developer Gunfire Games recently announced thatDarksiders 2: Deathfinitive Editionis being rereleased on October 15 for $29.99. This news was accompanied by a brief trailer showing Death in action, slicing through enemies with his twin scythes, riding across massive tentacled monsters on fiery horseback, scaling walls, and unleashing devastating elemental attacks and brutal finishing moves.

THQ also shared some of the updates that this new version ofDarksiders 2: Deathfinitive Editionwill include, such as faster load timesthanks to ultra-high-speed SDDs, 4K-enhanced visuals, and haptic feedback through the PS5’s DualSense controller. Players who have already purchasedDarksiders 2: Deathfinitive Editionon PS4 or Xbox One will receive a free upgrade to their corresponding current-gen system, and anyone who pre-orders the game between now and October 14 can get a 50 percent discount.
Last month, THQ Nordic teased that anewDarksidersgame is in the works, later clarifying that the brief trailer shown during the THQ Nordic Digital Showcase 2024 livestream isn’t connected to the latest announcement ofDarksiders 2’s impeding re-release. While fans wait for the next chapter in the apocalypticDarksidersseries, they can re-experience Death’s ride through the end of days with enhanced graphics and other improvements next month.
