Summary

Concordbeing delisted and shut down is awkward for Amazon, as the game is set to be featured in the animated anthology seriesSecret Levelcoming to Prime Video on December 10.Concordhas had a rough time ever since its initial reveal. The new hero-shooter was flat-out rejected by PlayStation fans for a number of reasons, but even so, few expected it to perform as poorly as it did.

Concordsales were extremely low, with hardly anyone bothering to play it on Steam. It reportedly did a little better on PlayStation 5, but not enough to keep it alive. Sony has confirmed thatConcordis shutting down on September 6, with no concrete plans to bring it back at the time of this writing. It’s possibleConcordwill return in some form down the line, but in the meantime, its sudden closure is problematic for the upcoming Amazon seriesSecret Level.

Secret Levelis an upcoming animated anthology show from Tim Miller, the creator ofLove, Death & Robots. Each episode focuses on a different video game, with 16 franchises confirmed to be represented so far. Among these isConcord, with its episode seeminglyfeaturing Star Child, the shotgun-wielding character from the game. However, now thatConcordis dead, its episode will be extremely out of place inSecret Level. It will effectively be promoting a game that doesn’t exist, unless, of course, the hero-shooter makes a comeback at some point between now and when the show premieres on December 10.

As mentioned previously, no official plans for aConcordcomeback have been announced. It was teased that the game may return somehow, but details were not given. IfConcorddoes come back, one has to imagine it willdo so as a free-to-play game, but it would still have some major problems to address.

A big reason why many players decided to skipConcordwas the mere fact that it’s a hero-shooter. That can’t be helped, but what can be is its character designs.Concordcharacter designs were near-universally hated, and a hero shooter with unappealing characters is a recipe for disaster. A complete revamp of the game’s character designs and art style combined with the swap to a free-to-play model could giveConcorda second chance, but time will tell if that ever happens and if it does, if it is even enough to get people interested in the game. Maybe ifConcord’sSecret Levelepisode is good, more people will want to play it, but as it stands, anyone watching the show won’t have an accompanying game to check out.
