Summary

PS5 console exclusive hero-shooter gameConcordis shutting down on September 6.Concordwas first revealed to the world this past May, and right off the bat, it struggled to generate interest. Many criticized the game for being yet another hero-shooter in what is becoming an increasingly crowded market, while others were not impressed with how it seemed to ape the art style ofGuardians of the Galaxy.

There continued to be little to no interest inConcordin the months following its announcement. The firstConcordbeta test was originally reserved for those that pre-ordered the game, but it was eventually opened up to anyone with a PS Plus subscription. On PC, hardly anyone participated in the free beta, with that apathy predictably carrying over to the full $40 release.Concord’s player count on Steamnever even hit 700 players, with the game’s total sales believed to be around 25,000 copies between both PC and PS5.

AsConcord’s player count continues to dwindle, it’s been announced that the game is being taken offline indefinitely starting September 6.Concordsalesare ceasing immediately and gamers that purchased the game for PS5 or PC will be getting a full refund for the game. Those that purchased from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct will get arefund using their original payment method. Steam and Epic Games Store refunds should be automatic as well. Those that purchased a physical copy ofConcordwill have to work things out with the retailer where they purchased the game. Access toConcordwill cease once refunds have been issued.

Concord Will Be Going Offline on September 6

Now, it should be stressed that this doesn’t meanConcordis necessarily going to be gone forever. The developers acknowledged that the initial launch ofConcord"didn’t land" the way that it intended, and that it would “explore options” that will “better reach” players. Presumably, this could meanbringingConcordback as a free-to-play gamedown the line, which is what many have predicted from the jump. However, that was not outright stated. It’s also possible PlayStation will cut its losses andConcordwill never make a comeback. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what happens.

However, while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended. Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning June 17, 2025, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.

IfConcorddoes come back, it will be interesting to see if the developers address other criticisms that have been levied about the game. Beyond the $40 barrier, many have complained aboutConcord’s character designs. A significant shift in art style and character design choices could go a long way in generating more interest in the game along with a free-to-play push, but that remains to be seen.

What’s awkward is that there are currently plans to expandConcord’s universe in a non-game format. The upcoming animated anthology showSecret Levelfrom Amazonactually features an episode based onConcord.Secret Levelis premiering on December 10, so ifConcordisn’t back by then, one has to wonder what will happen with the episode.
