Countless Devils are after the Chainsaw Man’s head, whether for revenge or simply to settle a score. The Chainsaw Devil is one of themost fearsome Devilsin Hell, alongside the Primal Devils, to which even lower-tier Devils fear. However, although many know the outcome of what it means to challenge the Chainsaw Man, the victory that comes with defeating this Devil is much more prestigious.
This brings us to the War Devil, who resides within Mitaka Asa. Like many others, the War Devil wants to see the Chainsaw Man dead. However, although the War Devil first confesses she wants to save her comrades, she has a different reason for wanting to defeat him inChainsaw Man.
Why does the War Devil want to kill Chainsaw Man?
There’s a deeper reason why the War Devil has gone through all this trouble
The War Devil is part of a group called the Four Horsemen. These incredibly powerful Devils host one of the Primal Devils, the Death Devil. The Four Horsemen consist of the Death, Famine, Control, and War Devils. At one point in Hell, the Four Horsemen and the Weapon Devils had a battle with the Chainsaw Man.
However, in Chapter 87, Makima notes that during the height of the battle, the Chainsaw Man Devil vanished before everyone’s eyes. Unbeknownst to the Four Horsemen and Weapon Devils, Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, reincarnated on Earth, where he meet Denji. Here, they lived fighting Devils to pay off Denji’s debt to the Yakuza.
Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, has struck fear into the hearts of all Devils. However, many Devils, such as Makima the Control Devil, are fans of the Chainsaw Devil. This is because the Chainsaw Devil has the ability to erase Devils from existence by eating them. However, these Devils can return if the Chainsaw Devil vomits them back up.
Many of the Devils have been forgotten, and Humans will not recognize them when questioned about them. However, the Four Horsemen still remember the Devils eaten by the Chainsaw Devil. In Chapter 176, the War Devil comments that the Chainsaw Devil has eaten her comrades, the Weapon Devils, and wants to find a way for the Chainsaw Devil to vomit them back up.
In Chapter 176,the War Devilmentions that there is something she wants to reclaim from the Chainsaw Man. Although she wants to save her comrades that he has eaten, this is not the only thing she wants to reclaim from him. In the same Chapter, Asa confronts the War Devil and questions how she could defeat the Chainsaw Man.
How does the War Devil plan to defeat the Chainsaw Man?
Who or what will be by her side when she plans to defeat the Chainsaw Devil?
The War Devil then confesses that there are two weapons she can make that are more fearsome and powerful. She would be referring tothe Gun Deviland Tank Devil, who she later refers to as her children. However, these are Devils with their own consciences, and turning them into weapons could harm them.
Although the War Devil insisted that she initially wanted to save her comrades, likely the Weapon Devils, she had a different motive for wanting to defeat the Chainsaw Man. It’s likely that these Weapon Devils may also be her other children; however, that has yet to be confirmed. Asa then asks the War Devil to stop targeting Denji, the Chainsaw Man, as her determination falters.
I want to beat him… And prove thatI’mthe more fearsome Devil!
This is when the War Devil confesses that she wants to beat Chainsaw Man. She wants to beat him to prove that the War Devil is the more fearsome Devil. As mentioned, the Chainsaw Devil has been feared throughout Hell due to his immense power and his ability to erase Devils from existence. However, in Chapter 176, the War Devil notes that whenever War is feared, the Chainsaw Man is feared alongside it. This is due to the Chainsaw Man Church arc, where citizens would change into pseudo-chainsaws and kill people.
Many devils have sought to kill the Chainsaw Devil; however, few have come close to achieving this goal. Throughout the Chainsaw Man series, there have been multiple occasions wherein the Gun Devil has been made out to be a formidable foe due to its widespread destruction. In Chapter 176, the War Devil has turned its children into weapons of her own to replace her missing right and left hands.
After calling forth the Gun and Tank Devil, they have become her Right Gun Gauntlet and Left Tank Gauntlet. With one attack from the Right Gun Gauntlet, the War Devil was able to sever Chainsaw Man’s right arm and blow a hole in his stomach, which allowed the Mouth Devil to escape. With these weapons in hand, it is clear that the War Devil has become a formidable opponent against the Chainsaw Man.
