Summary

Capcom developers are hinting at a future remaster ofDead Rising 2in the style of the recentDead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Frank West’s original trek through the zombie-infested Willamette Parkview Mall was relaunched on modern hardware with a new coat of paint on September 19 to mostly positive reviews, leaving fans wondering if Capcom is going to give the same treatment to later installments in the series like 2010’sDead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 2replaced Frank with motorcycle rider Chuck Greene and introduced a weapon-crafting mechanic that allowed players to cobble together items to make more powerful tools to defend themselves against the undead hordes roaming the Las Vegas-inspired Fortune City. In 2011, Capcom released a reimagining titledDead Rising 2: Off the Record, which retold the original game’s story with Frank as the main protagonist instead. Jas Patrick, the voice actor forFrank West inDead Rising Deluxe Remaster, recently asked fans to request an updated version ofOff the Recordin a survey put out by Capcom this month.

The originalDead Rising 2was also one of the options fans could vote for in this survey, which asked gamers ifthey would like to see futureDead Risinggamesfollowing the release ofDead Rising Deluxe Remaster. Some of the developers behind the remaster, such as director Ryosuke Murai, original game director Yoshinori Kawano, art director Satoshi Takamatsu, and producer Kei Morimoto, recently sat down for an interview withInverse, during which they mentioned the possibility of remasteringDead Rising 2.

Morimoto says that a remaster ofDead Rising 2will depend on how wellDead Rising Deluxe Remasterperforms, but added that it is “definitely possible” and that Capcom will consider it if it can “identify an appropriate time where we’d be able to sell [it].” Capcom has previously stated that it wishes torevitalize the once-dormantDead Risingseriesfollowing the release ofDead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which has triggered a boost in sales for past installments like the originalDead Rising 2.

Dead Rising 2is still considered by many to be one of thebest entries in theDead Risingfranchise, and would logically be the next game to reinvent shouldDead Rising Deluxe Remasterprove successful enough for Capcom. Only time will tell if gamers will get the chance to strap on Chuck Green’s signature yellow jacket and slash their way through yet another zombie apocalypse with the same level of polish that was given to the firstDead Risinggame, but fans are certainly looking forward to the possibility.
