Summary
Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will premiere on thePrime Videochannel, Freevee, in March 2025, and it’ll be the final series. It brings to a close over 10 years of Harry Bosch focused crime stories, but Titus Welliver will reprise the iconic role in the Renee Ballard spin-off series. Ballard will set up a cold case unit in the spin-off series, and it looks like Bosch will assist her with a murder case. The cold case recruits retired detectives, and this could see ex Hollywood Homicide duo, Crate and Barrel join the team.
Crate and Barrel(portrayed by Gregory Scott Cummins and Troy Evans) were series regulars in the originalBoschseries, and they have also made recurring appearances in the first two seasons ofBosch: Legacy, and are confirmed to return for the final season. The pair are fan favorites, andit would feel like an organic way to bring them back as volunteer investigators in the Ballard spin-off.

The end ofBosch: Legacyafter season 3could also be Crate and Barrel’s final appearance, and the comic relief they provide alongside key investigative skills would be sorely missed in the Bosch-verse.However, it doesn’t have to be the last time fans get to see their characters, as the Renee Ballard series will launch in the Fall of 2025, and this opens up the possibility for their return.Bosch: Legacyseason might set up more spin-offs, andCrate and Barrel’s exploits in the private sectorwould be a great idea for a continuation. The pair would be perfect candidates for their own show, but if this doesn’t materialize, they would blend in well in the Ballard series.
The end of Bosch: Legacy could also be Crate and Barrel’s final appearance.

Michael Connelly’s crime book seriesseesHarry Bosch join Ballard’s cold case unit, and she also recruits other retired detectives to assist her with the ‘library of lost souls’ murder books.Crate and Barrel fit the job description for the cold case unit, and they would be good candidates to join.Titus Welliver will play Harry Bosch in a recurring role in the Ballard series, so it’s highly likely he would recommend his old colleagues to assist with the case load. Crate and Barrel showed a willingness to keep working well into their retirement inBosch: Legacyseason 2, when they helped Bosch tail Kurt Dockweiler’s lawyer.
Crate and Barrel have featured in every season ofBoschandBosch: Legacy, so it would feel very odd if they didn’t return in the Renee Ballard series.Their retirement from the LAPD actually makes them more likely to re-appear, as it makes them eligible for the cold case team. There are a lot of new characters featured in the spin-off series, so Crate and Barrel’s potential roles might be similar to how they are utilized inBosch: Legacy, asrecurring characters who turn up now and then to assist with a case.
Renee Ballard and Harry Bosch’s Joint Book Appearances
The news ofBosch: Legacycoming to an endis still fresh, andTitus Welliver was fully expecting to return as Harry Bosch inBosch: Legacyseason 4, and it would’ve almost certainly featured Crate and Barrel as well.Crate and Barrel’s planned storylines could be shoehorned into the Renee Ballard series at some point, but it isn’t likely it will be during the debut season, with production well underway. TheJerry Edgar spin-offmight also be a possible destination for Crate and Barrel in the future, as they were always on board to help Harry Bosch’s partner in the originalBoschseries.
