Summary
Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will significantly expand Michael Connelly’s television universe, with the introduction of Renee Ballard, as a cold case investigator, who seeks Harry Bosch’s help with a grisly murder case. In addition to this, there will be a spin-off focused on Bosch’s ex-partner in the LAPD, Jerry Edgar. With the expansion of the Bosch-verse, there is one other character who would fit perfectly into the mix, and that is Bosch’s half brother, Mickey Haller, who is better known as The Lincoln Lawyer.
Unfortunately,Netflix own the rights toThe Lincoln Lawyer, which significantly hampers the chance of the character turning up in the Bosch television universeanytime soon. However, it isn’t totally out of the question that Haller could cross paths with Bosch in the future, especially as theBoschbrand continues to grow.Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will be based on Michael Connelly’s books,The Black IceandDesert Star.
Mickey Haller Would Be A Great Addition To The Bosch Television Universe But Netflix Are Standing In The Way Of It Happening
Michael Connelly created the character of Harry Bosch for his series of successful books, which began in 1992 withThe Black Echo. Since then, he has expanded the Bosch-verse to include fellow crime fighters, cold case unit investigator, Renee Ballardand Mickey Haller (a.k.a.The Lincoln Lawyer). Connelly was involved as an executive producer for the adaptation of his book series when Amazon acquired the rights and launchedBoschseason 1in 2014. A decade later, and the television universe is also expanding to includeRenee Ballard sooner than expectedinBosch: Legacyseason 3.
Connelly’s other creation, Mickey Haller, who is Harry Bosch’s half brother in the book series, has yet to appear in Prime Video’sBoschtelevision universe, as Netflix own the rights to the character, after launching their own series,The Lincoln Lawyerin 2022. This creates a massive stumbling block for a potential crossover withBosch: Legacy, and it’s doubtful if it’ll ever happen. Michael Connelly commented on the situation in aninterview with Los Angeles Magazinein 2022:
You’re talking about Netflix and Amazon coming together and shaking hands and saying, ‘Let’s do this'. It seems very unlikely to me. But it’s too bad. It would be nice.
It is highly unlikely that Netflix and Amazon would join forces to bring Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch together,as the streamers are fierce rivals, and it would be near impossible to make it work. However, if the Bosch-verse continues to flourish at Amazon, there could be a potential deal to be made where both companies prosper. Fans of Michael Connelly’s books would be overjoyed if the two characters interacted with each other in the television world. It wouldn’t be the first time two rival companies shared a character, after Sony and Disney famously shared the Spider-Man IP.
A Bosch/Lincoln Lawyer Crossover Would Be Epic But There’s Enough Going On In The Bosch-Verse Right Now To Keep Fans Entertained
The Lincoln Lawyeris heading into its third season on Netflix on June 26, 2025. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will reprise the role of recovering alcoholic lawyer, Mickey Haller, withScreamstar, Neve Campbellalso returning to play the character of Maggie. Season 3 will be based on Michael Connelly’s fifth book in the series,The Gods Of Guilt, and it’ll run for 10 episodes.Bosch: Legacyseason 3 will be back sometime in 2025, but don’t count on any crossover withThe Lincoln Lawyeranytime soon. However, the Bosch-verse doesn’t need Mickey Haller, as it has enough going on with two exciting new spin-offs.Maggie Q will play Renee Ballardin her own solo series, whileJerry Edgar will feature in a spin-off seriesfocused on a Haiti-based undercover operation.
Of course,it would be great to see Mickey Haller and Harry Bosch join forces sometime in the future, but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if it didn’t happen.Bosch and Ballard’s interactions in the booksare far more crucial as fellow investigators, while Haller and Bosch pop into each other’s stories from time to time, but they occupy vastly different roles in the criminal justice system. However, the characters are bonded by blood as they share the same father: a man called J. Michael Haller, Sr. Haller and Bosch’s father was a famous criminal defense attorney in the city of Los Angeles, but he died when Harry was 20 and Mickey was only 5.
The most likely option for a future crossover betweenThe Lincoln LawyerandBosch: Legacywould be after the current Mickey Haller-based series ends on Netflix, and Amazon could then buy the rights and create a new iteration of the character specifically for the Bosch-verse. Netflix’sThe Lincoln Lawyerseries is very much its own thing, and no mention has ever been made of Harry Bosch in their universe, so it would be strange for Haller to suddenly appear alongside Titus Welliver’s Bosch character inBosch: Legacy.
