This article contains spoilers from Boruto: TBV Chapter 13.

Summary

Boruto: Two Blue Vortextakes an exciting direction withthe introduction of the Shinju, and fans know that for the very first time in a long time, the story Is showing potential. Right now, the ninjas in theBorutoworld find themselves in quite a precarious situation. This is because Naruto is no longer around, having been sealed away.

At the same time, Sasuke has been turned into a Shinju, with Hidari sprouting from his body. Right now, Boruto Uzumaki is fighting on his own, and even he lacks the experience required to fight the powerful Shinju. That is precisely why the ninja world needs someone with incredible intellect, and this could come in the form of none other than Itachi Uchiha.

Boruto’s Lack Of A Strong Supporting Cast Is An Issue

The Boruto Series Is Predominantly Focused On Boruto and Kawaki

While bringing back Itachi might feel like a counterproductive move to many fans, there is more than just one reason as to why he would be a perfect fit for the series. One of the biggest reasons why Boruto isn’t as popular as its predecessor, or any other series in general, is because of a lack of a strong supporting cast. The entire story of Boruto revolves aroundthe likes of Boruto Uzumakiand, at some points, Kawaki. These two characters take the spotlight for the vast majority of the series, and there are essentially no exciting side characters. Now, that is not to say that the supporting cast inNarutowas great. Fans know that it had its own issues and that the series suffered greatly from a lack of exciting support characters.

Those blue eyes would one day take everything from you! – Momoshiki

Itachi returns to the Leaf Village and Faces Asuma & Kurenai in Naruto.

However, Naruto did a much better job with experienced ninjas who were always there to guide the likes of the younger generation. For instance, Kakashi was always around to aid Naruto and he did an excellent job in many exciting battles. Similarly other powerful Jonin, like Guy, or Kage, such as Tsunade, Hiruzen, and even the reanimated ones, among others, we’re always excellent as well.

Similarly, the likes of Itachi Uchiha, and many other powerful ninjas from other villages were there to take center stage on various occasions in Naruto, and that is something that Boruto lacks. This is one of the reasons why fans are often bored by the Boruto series, and why its popularity is gradually plummeting. Were Boruto to introduce some exciting side characters, fans would absolutely love this change. Now, it would be best if Boruto introduced its own cast of exciting side characters, and, to be fair, it has, with Kashin Koni. However, other than him, no other major support character who is there to guide Boruto Uzumaki or other young generation ninjas exists, while being exciting at the same time.

Clearly, at this point, a character that fans are very well familiar with making an appearance, preferably one that fans already adore, would be the best. In the absence of Naruto and Sasuke, someone else needs to carry the torch, and that is why Itachi Uchiha would be the perfect character for this role.

How Itachi’s Genius And Untapped Potential Could Be Crafted Into A Brilliant Story

Fans know Itachi to be a brilliant character. He is known to be a genius of the Uchiha Clan, the likes of which have never been seen before. Even at a very young age, he was already stronger than the vast majority of the Uchiha around him. Itachi was a monster at a very young age, and one that even the Legendary Sannin openly admitted inferiority to. Unfortunately, Itachi’s story was one full of tragedies. He was forced to massacre his own clan, and eventually, become a spy in Akatsuki. Itachi lived his life in disgrace, despite actually saving the world. Similarly,in the Fourth Great Ninja War, Itachi was brought back using Edo Tensei, and this time around too, Itachi saved the world with no one so much as knowing that he was primarily responsible for it.

Every Jutsu has a weakness. My very existence is the weakness of your technique! – Itachi

Clearly, there needed to be a story about Itachi Uchiha that threw more focus on him, and if that did not happen in Naruto, perhaps, it could happen in theBorutoseries. Itachi would have more than just one reason to be present in Boruto. First of all, he will be brought back using Edo Tensei, which is, at this point, a given. His return would solve more problems than just one. It would give more characterization to the Uchiha Clan and the famed Sharingan. At this point, this entire bloodline has been cast aside from the series and is of little importance. Itachi’s return to the series would highlight how important this bloodline is and why the Uchiha are as special as they are.

Secondly,Sasuke being turned into a Shinjuwould give Itachi an exciting reason to be back. It would give him a chance to look at his younger brother and see what kind of a man he has become, but only after he goes on to save him again. He could aid Boruto Uzumaki in saving his sensei, Sarada Uchiha in saving her father, and he could do all this in a brilliant fashion, using his panache and suave, as he always does.

More importantly, fans could get to see his strength on full display once again, and, along with it, his keen intellect as well. Itachi Uchiha is a genius as a ninja, and fans would love to have more opportunities to showcase what he was truly capable of. Similarly, fans would also love if Itachi were to be given another opportunity to go in-depth about his past, and how he aspires the world to be. When he did return in the Ninja War, he was on unlimited time because his job was to take down Kabuto. As soon as he took him down, Edo Tensei was undone. Now, however, Itachi would have the perfect time to play an extended role in the series, and it would certainly help Boruto soar following its plummeting popularity as well.

Should Itachi Uchiha Return?

Itachi’s Return Could Be A Double-Edged Sword

The question of whether Itachi Uchiha should return or not is a very intriguing one. On the one hand, Itachi’s return would help Boruto with popularity, and, at the same time, it would also give the story an interesting twist, where characters other than just Boruto and Kawaki would get some spotlight. It couldthrow some more light on the Uchiha Clan, and, most likely, help in progressing Itachi’s very own character arc as well. This would be a brilliant move for the story. It would also give him a chance to save Sasuke, and above all bond with his niece and train her in the ways of the Uchiha.

On the other hand, it could prove to be a double-edged sword, and this is simply because in the Boruto series, the writers often mistreat characters from the previous generation. The likes of Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and just about every other side character of the older generation have been mistreated. If Itachi does return, it is possible that he gets mistreated in a similar way, and fans would absolutely hate that. Itachi’s role in Boruto would be limited, but it would be exciting. And, one can say that he should certainly return, but only if the writers go on to nail the ending to his character and not disgrace him like they have done with many others in the past.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and theManga Plusapp. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 14, is set to be July 08, 2025.
