Summary
There are a total of twenty-three secret or hidden bosses inBlack Myth: Wukong. Players can start fighting secret bosses as early as the first chapter, and it’s usually worth it — many of the rewards will help with the game’s main bosses. The rewards on offer range from new transformation spells to new weapons and armor to craft, and even permanent stat boosts.
Not all the fights are equal, as the rewards and difficulty can vary widely. They go from early winnable challenges to some of the toughest fights in the game, as well as some that are average and forgettable. Read on for the best and most memorable secret fights inBlack Myth: Wukong.
10Elder Jinchi
The First Secret
Elder Jinchi is the first secret boss players can find in the game. Interacting with the three bells in Black Wind Mountain in chapter one will transport players to Ancient Guanyin Temple, where the Elder can be fought.
It’s a good idea to beat the Wandering Wight first, and equip their spirit for a defense boost. The Wight also has a similar moveset to Jinchi, so fighting them is a good way to prepare. Once the big-headed Elder is defeated, players can claim the Fireproof Mantle, which will come in handy against Chapter One’s main boss.
9Fuban
The Beetle King
Chapter 2’s Yauguai King boss isthe armored beetle Fuban. If players follow the optional Yellow-Robed Squire questline, Fuban is encountered as the climactic boss. Not only is it a visually impressive fight, with Fuban’s rock tossing abilities, it also has the Yellow Wind Sage join the fray in phase two. This makes it a spectacular early encounter.
The Wind Tamer spirit is the stand-out reward, granting massive damage reduction and immunity to strong winds on activation. Anyone who has faced Chapter Two’s final boss will know why this is such a valuable item.
8Apramana Bat
Flying Menace
The Apramana Bat can be a frustrating boss to fight. The unique design of the boss and its flying attacks make for an interesting visual experience, but its ability to take to the air and fly out of range can draw the fight out. Mercifully, it has a relatively small health pool for a secret boss.
The reward for the fight is the bat’s spirit, which is far from essential, as well as some crafting materials. What makes this secret boss especially notable is that it can be missed entirely by progressing past chapter three.Find the Apramana Bat in the Bitter Lakearea to avoid missing out.
7Giant Shigandang
Stat Booster
Players won’t find this boss until the last chapter of the game, though a smaller Shigandang needs to be fought in Chapter Two to unlock it. In addition to the reward from that fight, the player will need three other Skandhas from the game’s opening chapters. That means there area few steps to get to this fight, but the ultimate reward is worth it.
The fight itself isn’t the most challenging; it’s a standard “attack the weak point” boss. But the scale of the boss is imposing, and it’s another visually impressive fight. Defeating Shigandang gives players the last Skandha, which can be given to Xu Dog to get the Five Skandhas Pill for a permanent stat boost.
6Yin Tiger
Sparring Match
Yin Tiger’s friendly challenge is a unique and interesting secret boss fight. Players will first encounter Yin Tiger as a friendly NPC blacksmith. He’sfound in the Zodiac Village, a hidden NPC hub in chapter three’s Bitter Lake area.
Talking to Yin Tiger will give players the option to challenge them. This friendly contest can be repeated, even after the player defeats the boss. It’s no easy fight, and most players will want to wait until later in the game to challenge it. The rewards are a powerful transformation and an additional curio slot, so it’s not one to skip.
5Captain Lotus-Vision
Not So Hidden
One of theoptional Captain mini-bosses in chapter three, Captain Lotus-Vision is unique for his purple runic magic and ability to raise corpses from around the arena. It’s not just a cool-looking fight though.
Beating Captain Lotus-Vision removes the purple magic seals on the cells in the pagoda. Doing so is essential for progressing the area’s side quests and attaining the Chu-Bai Spear, a powerful weapon with a unique moveset.
4Cyan Loong
Frozen Lightning
Cyan Loong’s humanoid dragon form and lighting infused sword moves place this secret boss among the most interesting visual designs inBlack Myth: Wukong. The fight itself is tough but manageable with shock resistance, making it a fun encounter.
Beating Cyan Loong on the snowy Turtle Island is a satisfying feeling. It’s also a step towards crafting the Golden Loong Staff later in the game. Plus, it grants players access to a new soak, the Breath of Fire.
3Duskveil
Raining Blood
TheDuskveil is a creepy and intimidating boss design, clad in bones with decaying flesh and ragged wings. The second stage of the fight takes the horror aesthetic a step further, with the sky taking on a red hue and raining blood down onto the boss arena. The first phase is manageable, but the second phase introduces much more aggressive attacks. Dodging effectively requires some skill.
In the Purple Cloud Mountain where the Duskveil fight is found, there are two other optional bosses, the Scorpionlord and Daoist Mi. Interestingly, fighting Duskveil first locks out these two bosses but means that the Scorpionlord will appear as an ally in the fight. The main reward for the Duskveil fight is a big one: the Weaver’s Needle. This is a powerful vessel that will come in handy against Chapter Four’s main boss.
2Yellow Loong
At Loong Last
Yellow Loong is the last, and toughest, of the four Loong fights. In fact, it’s one of the toughest optional bosses in the game. His lightning glaive attacks are more powerful than the Cyan Loong’s sword, butshock-resistant gear like the loongscale armorcan still help here. Even so, this fight will likely take multiple attempts at learning Yellow Loong’s attack patterns.
Fittingly for the last fight in a long quest chain, the rewards for beating Yellow Loong are powerful. The Golden Lining transformation lets players take the Loong’s form in battle, and the materials from the fight are the last required for crafting the Golden Loong Staff.
1Erlang Shen
The True Ending’s Gatekeeper
After beating the game, and all the optional content, players can take on Erlang Shen to reveal the game’s true ending. The fight takes two forms. First, players need to beat Erlang, The Sacred Divinity in a brutal fight.
Then, after defeating the Four Heavenly Kings, an epic cinematic battle with Erlang Shen in his Lion form takes place. Players battle in giant stone monkey form, going toe to toe with the giant lion. It’s an amazing final fight and well worth going back to experience after beating the game.
