The laid back and powerful captain of the Black Bull, Yami Sukehiro is a popular character in theBlack Cloverseries. Known for his intimidating personality, Yami is unlike the other Magic Knight captains, he saw potential in Asta when the others did not and believes in his team surpassing their limits.
Yami came from humble beginnings and was an outsider to Clover Kingdom, because of this, he faced many setbacks but was eventually able to join the Gray Deer Magic Knights after being recognized by Julius Novachrono and later was appointed the captain of the Black Bull Magic Knights.

Yami takes on a unique fighting style where hecombines brute force, magic, and swordsmanship. He also uses a katana as a main weapon as he is a very skilled swordsman and most of his attacks involve precise slashes towards opponents. Apart from his fighting style, Yami also possesses the ability to sense Ki, which is the presence of emotions and movements of others. By detecting the “flow of life”, Yami is able to anticipate attacks from his opponents even in darkness. This heightened awareness allows him to react faster and predict the angle of the incoming attacks, this gives him advantages in battle as he is able to quickly counter an attack or defend.

Even though Yami’s fighting style is seen to be aggressive and reckless, he is aware of his surroundings and uses strategy to analyze his enemies' weakness before executing powerful blows. He is also not afraid to face opponents who he knows are stronger than him, believing that winning would make him grow stronger and surpass his limits.

Yami’s magic is known as Dark Magic, this type of magic means that he is able to control darkness and channel this dark magic into his katana. One of his popular moves is known as Dark Cloaked Dimension Slash, a powerful move that is able to cut through mana, spatial magic and eve space, this kind of attack isextremely useful against devilsas it is extremely difficult to dodge or block. Another powerful attack that Yami is capable of is known as Dark Cloaked Avidya Slashes, where he is able to unleash multiple slashes on an opponent. Because of his Dark Magic abilities, Yami is ranked as an Arcane Stage mage and is overall one of the most powerful Magic Knight captains around.
Reinforcement Magic is also an ability that Yami possesses, he is able to use this type of magic to gain physical abilities, increasing the power of his attacks. While Dark Magic is extremely powerful, it can slow down his pace, this is where Reinforcement Magic helps him speed up his movement. During his battle with Dante Zogratis, Yami is seen to constantly use this magic to combat the devil’s Gravity Magic to avoid being slammed into the ground. Apart from his katana, he also makes full use of his grimoire by casting Restraining Magic on opponents to bind their movements. As a Black Bull captain, Yami is recognized for beingone of the powerful Magic Kinghts, surpassing the power of most nobles and high-ranking devils and always looking for ways to become stronger.
