Summary
The Italian folklore-inspired soulslike,Enotria: The Last Song, has many unique aspects that make it stand out in a crowded genre. Not the least of these is the mask system. One ofEnotria’s core gameplay mechanics, this system lets players take on new abilities and appearances by acquiring masks.
All masks require some effort on the player’s part to obtain, whether it’s by beating bosses, farming enemies, or completing side quests. Not all masks are equally worth the effort, though, as some are far more powerful than others. This ranking highlights the best masks that players will want to aim for.
9Gardener’s Mask
Healing Helper
This mask is less powerful than others on this list, but it’s still worth seeking out due to its early-game availability. To get it, players simply have to farm mask shards from the commonly found gardener enemies. Once obtained, the masklets players heal when hittingwith Ardore Burst. It also increases healing from Armonia Amber when the player is awakened.
8Fauno’s Mask
Wicked Immunity
Status effects can be powerful inEnotria: The Last Song, butthey can be a double-edged sword.Wicked, the status effect inflicted by the Fatuo element, causes enemies to heal on hit when it’s inflicted on the player. Being immune to this effect can be a big help.
Turning this effect around on enemies can be even more powerful.Fauno’s Mask imbues a weapon with Fatuo when the player is awakened, letting the player inflict Wickedand heal on hit themselves. It also increases an enemy’s elemental damage though, so it’s best to use it with caution.
7Zealot’s Mask
Red Tearstone With A Twist
Fans of theSoulsgames will find the effect of the Zealot’s Mask somewhat familiar. Like that series' Red Tearstone Ring and its variants, the Zealot’s Mask gives players abig physical attack buff when they’re on low HP.It’s perfect for players who want to maximize damage output and don’t mind a little risk.
The Mask also has an additional bonus. It lets playersnegate the first hit in a fight that would cause them fatal damage. The drawback is that it only works while awakened, but it gives an extra margin for error regardless.
6Moretta’s Mask
Big Buffs
Moretta’s Mask is a tough one to obtain, as players need to beat the Moretta boss fights three times to get enough shards. The effect is worth the effort, though, givingpassive buffs to both attack and status power. But, it also comes at a cost: actions will expend more stamina.
Players will need to be experts at stamina management to use this mask effectively, but it’s powerful nonetheless. It also comes with the perk of reduced dodging costs when the player is awakened. Overall, it’s one of the more powerful masks in the game, only brought down by the stamina debuff.
5Piercing Wit Mask
Ranged Specialist
Even though it’s obtained early on, the Piercing Wit Mask remains a good choice for players who want to focus on ranged mask lines with a battlemage playstyle. Thedamage buff for ranged Mask Lineskills is great throughout most of the game when upgraded.
The awakened bonus for the Maskcharges Mask Lines on finishing blows, which is a nice additional perk. The ease of obtaining the Mask, combined with its utility, make it a go-to choice from early to mid-game, even if players replace it with something like the Gondolier’s Mask later on.
4Guise of Spaventa
Stamina Booster
The Guise of Spaventa is a great mask for any build. Thehuge stamina boostis useful for almost anything players can choose to do inEnotria. That said, it is especially great for melee builds using heavy weapons.
As a bonus, players also get access to theSolar Barrage Mask Line, which can be a powerful ranged skill. However, it doesn’t complement the melee aspects of the mask very well. Additionally, some players will preferthe Mask of Change for melee builds, due to its damage buff and the fact that it is much easier to acquire.
3Gondolier Mask
Status & Damage
Focusing onusing status power and elemental damageis one of the easier ways to grow more powerful inEnotria: The Last Song. The Gondolier Mask is a great complement to any status build, with a goodpassive buff to status power.
The awakened ability also grants a decent buff to attack power, so it’s excellent for players who are confident about pulling off ripostes. It’s not too easy to obtain, as players need to get to the deepest parts of the Mines of Gratia. However, it’s worth the effort of getting there and beating the boss.
2Guise of Zanni
Extra Armonia Amber
The Guise of Zanni is a favorite Mask among theEnotriacommunity. Its popularity is largely due to its passive buff, which grantsthree extra Armonia Amber useswhen equipped. For those who aren’t familiar, that’s the replenishing healing item in-game. Three extra uses is a huge increase to players' overall health pool.
Zanni’s Guise also gives players access to theGrand Celebration Mask Line, which is a powerful AOE slam that deals Vis damage. However, it’s a very slow skill to cast, which makes it difficult to use effectively.
1Guise of Pulcinella
Secret Elemental Booster
As would be expected from a mask that’s only obtained from an optional boss inthe game’s alternate ending, the Guise of Pulcinella is incredibly powerful. It grants alarge elemental power buffpassively, making it the best-in-slot mask for elemental builds. Players also gain theSong of Change Mask Linewhen it’s equipped.
The obvious drawback is that the mask can’t be used in the first playthrough ofEnotria: The Last Song. Players focusing on elemental builds will likely use something like Vermiglio’s Mask or the Gondolier Mask when building towards this.
