Summary
The highly anticipatedBlack Myth: Wukongsurpassed all expectations when it was released earlier this year, quickly shooting to thetop of the Steam charts and garnering high praisefrom players across the globe. As the legendary Monkey King, Sun Wukong, from Wu Cheng’en’s epic “Journey To The West,” players must battle against a variety of mythological enemies, using all the agility and technique the fighting Monkey is known for to overcome them.
Throughout the game, there are many different bosses for Wukong to defeat, including some hidden and optional encounters players might miss on a single playthrough. The best boss fights combine a reasonable challenge withcreative character and environmental design, unique weapons, and a sense of accomplishment at having overcome them. Out of the many possible candidates, the following can be considered among the best in the game and have been favorites among fans since the game’s release.
7Black Bear Guai
A Tough Early-Game Boss With A Dramatic Setting
As the first major boss in the game, it should come as little surprise that this cinematic fight is designed to impress players and create a dramatic spectacle. Black Bear Guaiprovides a reasonable challengeat this stage in the game and will test players to use all of their skills to overcome his powerful and fiery attacks.
Though most of his main attacks are telegraphed, Black Bear Guai still has some terrifying speed once he launches, and his ability to transform into a mist and reappear mid-attack can be deceptive at times. Particularly once the second phase starts and the environment begins to burn, this is one of the more memorable boss battles from the early portion of the game.
One Of The Most Memorable Opponents In The Game
The Whiteclad Noble is one of the earliest bosses Sun Wukong will encounter in Chapter 2 and represents asignificant increase in difficultyover previous bosses in the first chapter. In addition to the Noble’s great character design, the battle also takes place in a shallow lake, which adds a lot of spectacular water effects.
With fast attacks and long combinations chained together, the Whiteclad Noble can be a difficult opponent to overcome. The best way to defeat him is to keep a distance whenever he begins an attack combo, and time the dodge to strike a counter-blow in the small opening that will become available.
5Fuban
An Epic Battle In Which Wukong Gains An Ally
While certainly not the most difficult boss battle, Wukong’s encounter with the giant, beetle-like creature is definitely one of the most cinematic. Taking place at the end of theYellow-Robed Squire’s questline, the battle goes down in the sandy setting of the Kingdom of Sahali.
Fuban’s large, lumbering attacks, which smash rocks into the air, show off Unreal Engine’s sand effects perhaps better than any other game to date. The battle is also made even more memorable by the fact that the Yellow Wind Sage jumps in as an ally for the third phase.
4Cyan Loong
A Tough Secret Boss In An Epic Battle Location
Cyan Loong is one of the secret bosses players can face throughout the game and has one of the coolest designs by far. On top of this, he provides a significant challenge by using a range of electrical attacks combined with heavy sword swings.
The battle takes place on a cliff-edge in Bitter Lake’s Turtle Island. To access the fight, it will first be necessary to defeat Kang-Jin Star. It is wellworth seeking out Cyan Loongand defeating him due to the high value rewards he will drop, much like other Loong bosses.
3Yin Tiger
A Fan Favorite With One Of The Best Weapon Designs
Yin Tiger “The Blacksmith of the Zodiacs” is an optional boss who provides plenty of valuable rewards when defeated. Though his attacks can seem very relentless and unpredictable at first, it will soon become relatively straightforward to learn his main combos and avoid them.
Taking place in the forests around the Zodiac Village, this battle showcases the element of wind, with lots of blowing leaves and dramatic effects coming as a result of the Tiger’s huge sword. While the fight is certainlya showcase in visual design, it is also a great challenge and one of the hardest boss fights in Chapter 3.
2Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master
A Very Difficult But Satisfying Fight To Overcome
The Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master is a truly monstrous beast. This therianthrope, a fused man-animal hybrid, is like a centaur only instead of a horse’s body he has that of a centipede beneath him. The fight is extremely tough toward the end phase, and players will need to acquire the Weaver’s Needle staff to take him on.
The battle increases in intensity throughout its different phases, building up to a point where players will be trapped inside a giant green stormcloud that reduces Wukong’s movement speed. Overall, it is a rewarding fight and one which players will certainly feela sense of relief and accomplishmentto complete.
1Duskveil
An Epic Encounter Which Allows Wukong To Use All His Skills
The Duskveil is a Yaoguai King and one of the toughest boss fights players will havethroughout the entire game. Taking place beneath the tangled roots of a giant overgrown tree, the miniature battle arena offers few places to hide from this relentless encounter.
The battle takes place over several phases, including a total reset of the Duskveil’s health bar. Though challenging, the boss’s relatively straightforward moves give players lots of opportunities to try out new skills and use different attacks or spirits.
