Summary
ABaldur’s Gate 3modder has recently shared a video showcasing their current work in recreatingBaldur’s Gate 2’s Waukeen’s Promenade in Larian Studios’ game. Ever since Larian released its official modding tools, theBaldur’s Gate 3modding scene has been showing off increasingly ambitious projects, and this is an example of how impressive they can be.
Released in 2023 after being in early access for three years,Baldur’s Gate 3quickly became a huge hit. Not only didBG3sell over 10 million copies and win many awards, but it’s often cited asthe best RPG of 2023, and it has been getting even wilder with mods.
Now, aBaldur’s Gate 3modder called Lotrich has shared an interesting project: their recreation of one of the opening areas ofBaldur’s Gate 2, Wauken’s Promenade.Baldur’s Gate 2starts in a dungeon, but as soon as the player escapes from the villain Irenicus’ base, the world opens up in the city of Athkatla, with Wauken’s Promenade. In a short video, Lotrich showcased their ongoing work of recreating Wauken’s Promenadeusing the Moonglasses Editor, and it looks amazingly detailed, despite being a work in progress, showing areas such as the local shops and the tent where Aerie can be recruited.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Modder Is Remaking BG2’s Waukeen’s Promenade
Unfortunately, gamers are still unable to play in this old-school area, as Lotrich has not released the mod yet, and the area does not seem to have any actual quests in it. Overall, this recreation of Wauken’s Promenade seems more like a showcase of the modder’s ability than anything else. However,BG2has already been recreated in other games such asNeverwinter Nights 2before, so it’s possible that someone will manage to do the same forBaldur’s Gate 3now that the official modding tools have been released.
Another interestingBG3project was amod that added real-time combat toBaldur’s Gate 3. The mod, which was already released as a work in progress, ditches the classic turn-based combat, completely overhauling the experience of fighting inBG3, but it still lacks AI for party control.
Right now,Baldur’s Gate 3has many excellent mods, which can either be used to change aspects of the game or introduce new content such as more races and subclasses. Hopefully, the community will continue to put out interesting mods in the future, maybe even coming up with a new unofficial campaign for the popular RPG.
