Apes on the Loose is the final stage in the Gorilla Nebula and becomes available onceAstro Botplayers have beaten Mighty Chewy inthe Gorilla Nebula boss fight. It’s a little different from the planets that came before it, as it gives players their first taste of Hero gameplay.
This effectively sees Astro gaining the powers of one of the cameo Bots that he’s rescued, which, in this case, is Spike fromApe Escape. Like in the monkey-catching classics,Astro Botplayers will need to run around and catch apes in a net. There are ten of them in total, as well as three Puzzle Pieces that will need to be found.
Players can swing Spike’s net using R2, while holding L2 will pull out the Monkey Radar.
Apes on the Loose Bot #1
Players will see the first Apes on the Loose Bot shortly after getting Spike’s net, although they won’t be able to catch it right away. Instead, they’ll need to climb the yellow ladder and then use the radar to find the Bot hiding in a bush over to their right.

The second Apes on the Loose Bot can be found sitting on a banana crate immediately after players enter the next area.

Players can find the stage’s third Bot near a large water fountain.
Apes on the Loose Puzzle Piece #1
If players jump on the jet of water coming out of the aforementioned water fountain, they’ll find the stage’s first Puzzle Piece floating just above the fountain.
Apes on the Loose Bot #4
There’s a green blob enemy on a checkered platform near the statue in the center of the stage. If players defeat it, they’ll be able to pull some explosives out of the ground beneath where it was standing, which they should then throw at the nearby flying enemy. Doing so will knock the Bot that’s hanging onto it down, allowing players to catch it in their net.

The fifth Bot is hiding in one of the bushes in the area with all of the stone columns.
Apes on the Loose Bot #6
To get their hands on the sixth Apes on the Loose Bot, players will need to chase it across a glass walkway. Using Astro’s boosters makes this section a whole lot easier, as it allows players to hover over the gaps created by the fleeing ape.

The stage’s second Puzzle Piece is on the glass walkway that players chase the sixth Bot across.
Apes on the Loose Bot #7
Players will find the stage’s seventh bot on a triangular metal walkway. To reach it, they’ll need to kill the nearby green blob enemy, beneath which they’ll find a petal that they can ride up to the metal walkway.
Apes on the Loose Puzzle Piece #3
The final Puzzle Piece of the stage is beneath the aforementioned metal walkway and can be reached by dropping down from above or using the flower petal on the nearby platform.

The eighth Apes on the Loose Bot is on top of a sloped platform.
Apes on the Loose Bot #9
Next to the sloped platform is a pile of mud with a crate of bananas in the center. The ninth Bot is hiding inside this crate.

After catching their sixth ape, a rail will appear around the statue in the center of the stage. Players can then grind this up to a platform where they’ll find a cameo Bot based on Specter:the sinister yet adorable main antagonist of theApe Escapegames. After defeating a few enemies with the net, they’ll be able to pull some explosives out of the ground and throw them at Specter, which will cause him to fall down. They’ll then just need to catch him in their net, which will reward them with both the stage’s final Bot and the Mothership’s Memory.
