Smite 2has manyreturning Gods for beginnersto learn the new game, andone of them is Ares. One of the biggest lures about Smite 2 is how Gods are more flexible, allowing for players to enjoy their preferred Gods even when their preferred roles get called. However, some Gods still play really well in a specific way, withAres being that of a Support god.
Support is one of the roles that comes with playing a specific Lane, the Duo Lane, and will partner upwith the Carry role. Ares is great atlocking down enemiesusing his kit, making him great for initiating fights with enemy Gods — as well as disrupting them.
How To Play Ares In Smite 2
Regardless if players plan to use anAuto Buildor theManual Buildoption, they should always attempt to build around Ares’ passive ability,Blessed Presence. This passive will increase different Auras for Ares’ depending on how he is built. Building Protection will increase a Strength Aura, while building cooldowns will yield an Intelligence Aura.
In both 1-on-1 fights and team fights, Ares will be able to lock down enemy Gods usinghis Shackles ability. This is amazing for Crowd Control since it can be used up to three times. Players should prioritize using this on more mobile Gods, like Athena, before others. Ares can become even more tanky by usingBolstering Defenses, which will also affect his allies in the process. The effectiveness of this ability will be increased for each enemy you have affected by Shackles.
Whenever an enemy attempts to heal up, it is best to hit them with Ares’Searing Fleshability, as this will reduce the effectiveness of their healing while also dealing damage. Players can Shackle up their enemies and then hit them all at once with this ability for a massive amount of damage.
For his ultimate ability, Ares will be able to pull all nearby enemy Gods towards him, both damaging and stunning them. This is hisNo Escapeability, and can be followed up with Shackles and Searing Flesh. This makes his kit all about denying enemies how they normally want to be playing. Ares can use this to pull enemies rather than dive in togank them like the Jungle role.
Ares Auto Builds In Smite 2
Gods in Smite 2 are a lot more flexible than in the original game. However, even though there are many ways to build and play Ares, it is always best toput him in the Duo Lane.
Active Support
With Ares being a support focused character, players going into a game of Conquest are going to want to put him in the Duo Lane as the Support role. This Auto Build will give you everything you need to play Ares effectively without worrying about opening up the shop. This may very well be the best Auto Build you can select for Ares.
Hybrid Tank
Some players might not want to follow the norm, and will want Ares to play more like a Carry than a Support. In this case, they can make use of this Hybrid Tank Auto Build and have Ares pile on damage alongside the Carry in the Duo Lane.
Bruiser
Players wanting to take a Support God into the Solo Lane would cause many eyebrows to raise in the original Smite — especially whenbuilding a God like Mordredmakes more sense. However, such a course of action is not as far-fetched in Smite 2. This Auto Build will greatly increase the potency of Ares’ passive ability while making him deal out more damage. This creates a character build that can actually go toe-to-toe in the Solo Lane. This is not the easiest option, and players might want to practice with this Auto Buildin the Arena game modebefore trying it in Conquest’s Solo Lane.
High Ability Damage
With Ares able to lock down enemies right where he wants them, he is going to need to finish them off before they can do the same to him. This Auto-Build will ramp up Ares’ ability damage and make his Searing Flesh absolutely terrifying. Players will want to lean heavily into cycling between setting up and unleashing this ability. Once opponents are aware of this, they will start to play more defensively.
Ares Manual Build-In Smite 2
Playersgoing for a proper Support role mentalityare going to want to drive up Ares survivability. Ares is a hybrid Strength/Intelligence character and is best built to be tanky, and use items that will play to his passive. Lowering his ability’s cooldown rates will also make using his kit far more reliable. HavingBlink Runeas your chosen Relic can be a great way to pressure enemies and gain a lead over them in the Duo Lane.
The best way to Build Ares is to simply focus on leveling up faster than opponents in the same lane. In the early game, players are going to want to focus on gold and experience yield to become stronger sooner rather than later. Facing off against a high-level Ares is a game that a lot of opponents will lose, so becoming a daunting adversary will be key. Make a beeline for the Duo Lane with the Carry by your side and just start racking up gold and experience together. If you see an opponent God.
There are some notable items players will want to consider getting, such asPharaoh’s Cursewhich can make it easier to catch enemies thanks to itsSlowing effects— as well as making them less of a threat from reduced attack speed.Shifter’s ShieldandGauntlet of Thebesare amazingTier 3 items, as they will play to Ares’ passive to boost his Strength Aura.Ruinous Ankhis another great item that can stop enemies from healing while they are shackled and being kept under fire.
Note Playerslooking to Trophy/Achievement huntin the game should be ready to call the Support role while playing with Ares. They will need to win 10 games after calling this role to get the Support God Trophy/Achievement — as well as the other trophies/Achievements that precede it.
