Summary

One creative member of thePokemoncommunity celebrates autumn’s approach by drawing up some new, pumpkin-themed designs for Bulbasaur and its first evolutionary stage, Ivysaur. The Bulbasaur family has, to many, served as the face of the Grass-type itself since the very beginning of thePokemonfranchise, with the classic Kanto starter appearing in countless pieces of fan artwork throughout the decades.

It’s to be expected that Bulbasaur and its evolutions remainfirm favorites among the widerPokemoncommunityall these years after the release ofPokemon Red and Blue. Though the eternal debate surrounding the “best” Kanto starter is occasionally rekindled among fans of the franchise to this day, Bulbasaur has never been quite as lucky as the Kanto region’s Fire-type starter when it comes to new forms, with Charizard receiving a considerable variety of powerful Mega and Gigantamax forms over the years.

Despite their practically legendary status among much of the gaming community, though, none ofthe Kanto starter Pokemonhave ever officially received new regional forms. That doesn’t stop fans from dreaming, however, with one amazing artist from thePokemoncommunity recently sharing a couple of concepts that imagine Bulbasaur and Ivysaur as adorable, autumn-themed critters complete with pumpkins on their backs instead of plant bulbs. This painfully cute artwork very quickly seized the hearts of manyPokemonfanatics, even driving some to suggest new names for the designs. The artist didn’t specify whether these new designs would feature their own distinct typings, though they did share plans to complete this autumn-dressed Bulbasaur line with a Venusaur design later on.

While it’s not totally clear whether this was the artist’s intent, their designs certainly bring to mind the concept ofregional variant Pokemon. This breed of creatures within thePokemonworld have enjoyed a growing popularity over the past several years, having appeared in nearly every core-seriesPokemontitle since the Gen 7 games. For those unaware, regional variants are unique forms for certain Pokemon that originate exclusively in specific regions, sporting appearances and typings that differ substantially from their more common forms.

Pokemon Legends: Arceusnot only featured its own pool of extremely beloved regional variant Pokemon, it also demonstrated how regional variants can be retroactively introduced to regions that fans have already visited in the past. With this in mind, many in thePokemoncommunity believe it’s all but certain thatnext year’sPokemon Legends: Z-Awill introduce a whole new variety of regional variant Pokemon exclusive to the Kalos region.
