On July 04, 2025, longtimeAssassin’s Creedfans will finally be able to stalk the rooftops of feudal Japan inAssassin’s Creed Shadows. Gamers will get to play as the Japanese Shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe and the African Samurai Yasuke as they struggle to find their destiny during the late Sengoku period of Japan. WhileAssassin’s Creed Shadowsis now further off following its recent delay, branches of developer Ubisoft are also hard at work developing subsequentAssassin’s Creedtitles, includingAssassin’s Creed JadeandAssassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. WithShadows' February release in sight, Ubisoft should consider developing games set in other long-demanded time periods and settings.

The World of Assassin’s Creed

Ever sinceAssassin’s Creed 1was released back in 2007, fans have long dreamt of a multitude ofAssassin’s Creedgames set in lands beyond the medieval Holy Land. Most of these original concepts stemmed fromAssassin’s Creed 1’s endingwherein the Apple of Eden displays a hologram of the world marking areas where other Pieces of Eden are located. Over the course of the series’ 17-year-long history, many of these locations have been the focus of several games, such as Egypt inAssassin’s Creed Origins, New York inAssassin’s Creed 3, and France inAssassin’s Creed Unityto name a few. However, these locations from the Apple’s map weren’t the only settings fans hoped to see in anAssassin’s Creedgame.

Many long-demanded settings were based on the geography and historical significance of certain time periods alone. For years, many sought to play anAssassin’s Creedin a more modern locale and fans eventually got that in the form ofAssassin’s Creed Syndicate. Many also desired to play as Assassins during the Viking age and fans got that withAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. Playing in Ming Dynasty China was another sought after setting which fans were able to play insidescroller form withAssassin’s Creed Chronicles. Despite these games, there are still many locations fans desperately want to explore as an Assassin.

Possible Settings for Future Assassin’s Creed Games

While parts of the United States were featured in bothAssassin’s Creed 3andRogue, these primarily focused on the northeast and many fans still wantanAssassin’s Creedgame to tackle the wild west. There’s endless potential for a westernRed Dead Redemption-escAssassin’s Creedgame, with fans proposing games set in 1800s California or among the battlefields of the United States Civil War. One more unique setting could be the Texas Revolution wherein colonists fought for independence from Mexico, resulting in the brief creation of Texas as its own country. The Apple’s map did show a Piece of Eden in Texas, so this game could have Santa Anna be a Templar searching for that artifact during the war.

Another long-desired setting for anAssassin’s Creedgame is Mongolia, set during the reign of the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Most fans’ desire for this setting is based on this location’s connection toAssassin’s Creed 1protagonist Altair Ibn-LaʼAhad and his fight against Genghis Khan. AfterAssassin’s Creed 1’s ending, Altair married Maria and had two sons, Darim and Sef. Together, they journeyed to Mongolia to aid fellow Assassin Qulan Gal in assassinating Genghis Khan.A MongolianAssassin’s Creedgamecould have players embody Qulan Gal from his early years to a Master Assassin fighting alongside Altair and his family, culminating in Qulan Gal killing Genghis Khan with his bow.

A Central American Assassin’s Creed Game

Possibly one of the most requested settings for anAssassin’s Creedgame afterAssassin’s Creed Shadows’ Japan is one set in the Aztec and Mayan Empires of Central America. AfterAssassin’s Creed Origins,Odyssey, andValhallaexpertly recreated the structures and societies of ancient civilizations, fans have long wanted the Aztec and Mayan Empires to receive a similar treatment. In terms of story, this setting could be the subject of multiple games set around the 1500s and 1600s during the fall of both Empires by the Spanish Empire.Assassins could aid the Native Aztecsand Mayans, while Templars could be commanding Spanish forces with Hernán Cortés revealed to be a Templar.

Qulan Gal first appeared inAssassin’s Creed 2as one of seven legendary Assassins immortalized in statue form underneath the Villa Auditore.
