TheStar Wars Jedisaga has been one of the strongest video game adaptations of the genre-defining sci-fi franchise.Fallen OrderandSurvivorhave both showcased incredible action-adventure titles that are worthy of their praise. Now, theStar Wars Jedisaga seems primed and ready to get a third chapter, as protagonist Cal Kestis' story isn’t over yet.
AlthoughSurvivoroffered the best chapter of the series so far, the ending also leaves an empty feeling. Cal is now directionless, and all hope is seemingly lost. This will likely continue to be a theme in the third game, as Cal is ultimately destined to fail in his mission to restore the Jedi Order.Whatever the nextStar Wars Jedigame holds, it is likely that it will take a bold move with its protagonist.
The Star Wars Jedi Franchise Sets Up Cal For a Darker Path
The events ofSurvivorwere not kind to Cal. Betweenthe tragic death of Cereand the betrayal of Bode, Cal was put through the wringer. This further pushes him towards the Dark Side, leaving many speculating that he will eventually become a Sith. Although this is a likely route, it may be too easy and predictable. A more compelling story choice would be for Cal to seemingly become aimless and jaded, defying both the way of the Jedi and the Sith.
It has now been established that Cal is not that great at being a Jedi, at least according to their rigid standards. That’s what makes the character so great. His humanity is on full display, making his tussle between the Dark and the Light incredibly relatable and moving. There arecertain things to be expected in the nextStar Wars Jedichapter, but the uncertainty of where Cal’s story will go opens itself up to floods of speculation. After the death of his friend and being stabbed in the back by someone he trusted, Cal is likely going to be grappling with whether he wants to go through with restoring the Jedi Order or not.
Developer Respawn and EA have yet to announce another game in theStar Wars Jediseries in an official sense but one is seemingly inevitable.
Afterthe showdown with Bode, Cal and Merrin essentially became foster parents to his young daughter, Kata. A Force ghost version of Cere visits Cal to emphasize the importance of him showing Kata the ways of the Force, but it may not be that easy. In his bitterness, it is highly possible that Cal will refuse to teach Kata. Cal’s admission of the Jedi and their rules being no more at the end of the game signal the character’s official turn away from the Jedi, leaving a compelling door open for the threequel.
Cal Raising Kata With a New Path
With Cal seemingly letting go of the Jedi way, he could still choose to help Kata embrace her potential powers since she seems to be Force-sensitive. However, this rearing is likely to come from a far more cynical place that may not bode well for Kata’s future. Being taught the ways of the Force by an angry and grieving Cal could instill Kata with the wrong values, ultimately turning her to the Dark Side. Thenext villain in theStar Wars Jedisagais a mystery, but setting Kata up as a future threat could be a heartbreaking twist.
Based onthe lore ofStar Wars, Cal Kestis does not succeed in bringing the Jedi Order back up and running. This could ultimately be due to his own grief and abandoning of the Jedi Order creating a situation where a new Jedi is unable to rise into power. This would be a bleak outcome for theStar Wars Jediseries, but it would be a bold and fascinating route to explore.
