On October 1st 1989, 43 children were born to women around the world who had not been pregnant when the day first began. Eccentric billionaire Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of them and turned them intothe Umbrella Academy, the loveable misfit cast of powered apocalypse causers, survivors and fixers, that we all know and love.
There’s a lot to learn about the Hargreeves siblings, both in and out of the show. Especially due to the many different timelines that there are to be explored. Here are 7 facts about the Hargreeves siblings that some fans may not know, courtesy of the Commission Handbook.
7Luther Usually Leads The More Fulfilled Life Of The Number One’s
Comparing Strong Men
Both of the Number One’s, the Umbrella and Sparrow Academies, share one thing in common: they both have the relatively weak but easily applied superpower of super strength. That, and their differing styles of initially no-nonsense approach to leading, make them seem quite similar.
But their lives in other timelines outside leading academies is quite different. Whilst Luther ends up being a hometown hero and a successful firefighter, Marcus unfortunately ends up peaking in high school, not doing much with his life after his stint as a high school-level wide receiver and selling old cars.
6Diego Is Thought To Be A Deadly But Non-Strategic Combatant By The Commission
Taming The Kraken
Diego, other than Five, is one of the few Hargreeves children to have ever worked for the Commission, with his little stint with Lila in Season 2 making them more familiar with him than most of the Academy.
The Commission Handbook states that Diego is very dangerous to face off against in combat because of histrajectory manipulation powersand skills with knives.
Detailed advice is given on how to deal with him, such as taking advantage of his impulsive fighting style to plan ahead of him in combat, and that your weapon of choice when taking him on should be a crowbar, since this isn’t a typically thrown weapon that he can use his powers to use against you.
5Allison Is Capable of Being A Successful Politician
The Most Influential Sibling
Throughout the series, when Allison says “I heard a rumor” she can convince anyone to do whatever she suggests shortly after. This is an incredibly useful and powerful ability in the realm of mind manipulation, but it’s not all she is capable of.
At higher levels, she can manipulate without even saying these phrases or can use this ability to manipulate reality itself. But in some versions of the timeline, Allison doesn’t even need her ability to change the world around her. In most other timelines, Allison finds herself becoming a very successful politician, one with world renown.
Her catchphrase has been cited as being something along the lines of “I heard a rumor that taxes will not be raised”, which you can imagine, would make her popular among certain bases.
4Klaus Could Have Been A Brilliant Artist Without Drugs
A Great Story-Teller
Klaus has one of the mostimpressive sets of powerswithin the Umbrella Academy. With abilities such as being able to commune with the dead, being able to summon the dead, and being immortal, there’s a reason he may be called the Prince of Darkness.
Klaus learns to copewith the drawbacks of his powers (such as the constant screeching screams of the dead) with drugs and alcohol to numb himself out and gain some sort of peace of mind.
But in timelines where he stays within the Amish community he was born in, he turns his pain and strife into poetry instead and becomes a successful nation-traveling creative.
3Five Would Always Be A Family Man No Matter His Circumstances
Anything For His Loved Ones
Throughout the four seasons of the Umbrella Academy, wesee that Fivewill do anything for the sake of his family. He’ll travel through space and time and kill whoever needs to be erased if it means getting back to or saving his family.
So, though it is not as grand as some may think, it’s no surprise that in most timelines where Five has a more normal life, he isn’t a CEO or some kind of major disruptor, but just a humble family man in Ireland.
A picture in the Commission Handbook shows an older image of Five with long white hair and surrounded by children, a position which seems to be his natural habitat.
2Ben Has Two High-Status Life Paths Depending On The Timeline
Umbrella and Sparrow Differences
In the Umbrella Academy series, we see two very differentversions of Ben Hargreevesin two different timelines.
We see the nice and sweet but timid and neurotic Ben of the Umbrella Academy, and we see the dominant and ambitious but arrogant and rude Ben ofthe Sparrow Academy. Both of these Bens, despite being the same person, have different paths across the multiverse. Umbrella Academy Ben is typically seen as being a talented chef in South Korea who hates working with squid. Sparrow Academy Ben however, chooses the runway as the place to show off his talent, proving to be a good model.
1Viktor Is Considered To Be The Most Dangerous Entity By The Commission
The Most Chaotically Powerful Sibling
The Commission Handbook both praised and condemned a few people in the same breath. Their infamous former employee, Number Five, being one of the rare individuals to get this treatment, and Viktor being another.
The Commission Handbook describes Viktor as being anunstoppable force of powerwith his sound-related abilities being a dangerous factor to be considered when correcting the timelines.
It’s stated that all the Commission’s wacky tech, company protocol, and wit still make them an unfit match for the walking bomb that is Victor Hargreeves.
